The Election Commission (EC) had issued an order restricting the use of loudspeakers for poll campaigning to between 8am-7 pm. But several political parties reasoned it would adversely affect their poll campaigns given the already short window of 14 days for campaigning. EC's concern was the effect of ‘noise pollution’ on the student community.
